Start with bismillah.

Fill one glass with muddy water and one with clean water. Ask: "Which would you drink? How could we make the muddy one clean?"

Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What were people commanded to do?"

Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "What does it mean to do something only for Allah?" Younger children can draw theirs.

Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Bayyinah is surah 98. Find ayah 5. It is longer than the others. Can you find three things people were told to do? The key word mukhlisin means doing things sincerely, only for Allah, like pure water with nothing mixed in.

Fact: How do the plants in a wetland clean dirty water?

Ages 5–8: Filter it. With an adult, pour muddy water through a funnel lined with a coffee filter, sand and small stones. Is it clearer?

Ages 9–12: Wetland study. Find out three things a marsh's plants and soil do to clean water. Draw a diagram of water passing through.

Finish with: "I found that water gets cleaner when it passes through ___."

Talk together:

• What makes a good deed "pure", done only for Allah?
• Which name of Allah does this remind you of?
• Why do you think prayer and charity go together in this ayah?
• How can we clean our intentions, like a wetland cleans water?
• What would you like to give in charity this week?

Make a small plan: "This week, I will give ___ in charity and do it quietly, just for Allah."

• Before you pray, whisper: "This is for You, Allah."
• Show someone at home your water filter and how it works.
• Next time: the next ayah (98:6) is a warning. Explore it together!
