4-I guide
This ayah opens Surah Al-Qadr: Allah sent the Quran down on the Night of Power.
Start with bismillah.
Turn off the lights and look out of the window together at night. Ask: "What makes a night feel special?"
Watch the NASA video showing how the moon's shape changes through one month.
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What did Allah send down, and when?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why did Allah choose a night?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Qadr is surah 97, and it has five ayat. Find ayah 1. The surah is named after the key words Laylat al-Qadr, the Night of Power. It comes in the month of Ramadan.
Fact: Islamic months begin with a new crescent moon. How many days does the moon take to go from one crescent to the next?
Ages 5–8: Moon diary. Each clear night for two weeks, draw the shape of the moon.
Ages 9–12: Moon model. In a dark room, hold a ball at arm's length and turn slowly around a lamp. Watch the lit part of the ball change shape.
Finish with: "I found that the moon's shape changes because ___."

Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will read or listen to the Quran at night before sleeping, for ___ minutes."
Action: Keep your night-time Quran plan.

Never look straight at the sun, even when looking for the moon in the evening sky.
