Start with bismillah.

Try to roll a big ball of play dough up a slope made from a book. Ask: "Was that easy? Did you want to give up?"

Watch the Science Channel video about dung beetles that roll their balls in straight lines using the stars.

Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What were people created for in this ayah?"

Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why didn't Allah make life easy all the time?" Younger children can draw theirs.

Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Balad is surah 90. Find ayah 4. The key word kabad means toil and struggle, hard work that is part of every life.

Fact: How much heavier than itself can a dung beetle push?

Ages 5–8: Strength test. How many times your own weight can you carry? (Try your schoolbag, then a cushion, then a book pile.) Compare with the dung beetle.

Ages 9–12: Effort log. For a week, write one hard thing you did each day and how you felt afterwards.

Finish with: "I found that a dung beetle can push ___ times its own weight."

Talk together:

• Why is struggle part of life, even for good people?
• Which name of Allah does this remind you of?
• What hard thing are you working at right now?
• How does it feel when you finally finish something hard?
• Who helps you keep going?

Make a small plan: "This week, I won't give up on ___, and I'll ask Allah for help."

• Encourage someone else who's finding something hard.
• Show someone your effort log.
• Next time: the next ayah (90:5) asks whether anyone has power over us. Explore it together!

Action: Keep going with your hard thing, and make dua for strength.
