4-I guide
They would love you to soften on the truth so that they could soften too.
Start with bismillah.
Pour a little oil into water and stir. Ask: "Do they mix?"
Watch the Nathan and Aria video How to be Assertive yet Kind.
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What did they want the Prophet to do?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "When should I never give in?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Qalam is surah 68. Find ayah 9. The key word tudhinu means to soften and give in. The Makkans wanted the Prophet to meet them halfway on worshipping idols. In many things we can share and give way, but truth and falsehood don't mix, like oil and water.
Fact: Why don't oil and water mix?
Ages 5–8: Oil and water. Shake oil and coloured water in a jar and watch them separate.
Ages 9–12: Kind but firm. Practise saying no politely in three different situations.
Finish with: "I found that oil and water don't mix because ___."

Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will stay firm on one good choice, kindly."
Action: Stay firm on one good choice, kindly.
