لَّوْلَآ أَن تَدَٰرَكَهُۥ نِعْمَةٌۭ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦ لَنُبِذَ بِٱلْعَرَآءِ وَهُوَ مَذْمُومٌۭ
Llaw'lā 'an tadārakahu niʻ'matun mmin rrabbihī lanubidha bil-ʻarā'i wahuwa madh'mūmun
Had not Grace from his Lord reached him, he would indeed have been cast off on the naked shore, in disgrace.

Had his Lord's favour not reached him, he would have been thrown onto a bare shore, blamed.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "How fast can a pumpkin or gourd vine grow?"

Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What saved him?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "How did Allah show mercy to Prophet Yunus?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Qalam is surah 68. Find ayah 49. The key words ni'matun min rabbihi mean a favour from his Lord. Because Yunus turned back to Allah, Allah's mercy reached him. In another surah, Allah tells us a gourd plant grew over him on the shore to shade him. Gourd vines grow fast with big shady leaves.
Fact: How many centimetres can a pumpkin vine grow in a day?
Ages 5–8: Leaf shade. Hold a big leaf (or paper leaf) over a toy in the sun. Does it give shade?
Ages 9–12: Vine facts. Find out three things about gourds or pumpkins and how they grow.
Finish with: "I found that a pumpkin vine can grow ___ a day."
Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will turn to Allah first when something goes wrong."
Action: Turn to Allah first when something goes wrong.
