Before this, they had been living in comfort and ease.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "How can we show we are thankful for what we have?"

Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "How did these people live before?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Can having lots of things make us forget Allah?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Waqi'ah is surah 56. Find ayah 45. The key word mutrafin means living in luxury, spoiled by comfort. Having nice things isn't wrong. The problem is when comfort makes us forget the One who gave it. Gratitude keeps our hearts awake.
Fact: Does being grateful make people happier?
Ages 5–8: Thank-you jar. Write or draw one blessing each day and put it in a jar.
Ages 9–12: Needs and wants. Sort ten things you own into needs and wants.
Finish with: "I found that being grateful ___."

Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will give away one toy or book I don't need."
Action: Give away one toy or book you don't need.
