That shade brings no coolness and no comfort.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "Why does it feel cooler in the shade?"
Watch the WKBN 27 video Why is it cooler in the shade?
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What is missing from that shade?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "What makes something truly comforting?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Waqi'ah is surah 56. Find ayah 44. The key words la barid wa la karim mean not cool and not generous. Real shade blocks the sun's heat and lets us rest. The shade of the people of the left gives nothing good. This helps us value the shade, rest and kindness Allah gives us now.
Fact: Why is shade cooler than direct sunlight?
Ages 5–8: Hand test. Hold one hand in the sun and one in the shade for a minute. What do you feel?
Ages 9–12: Temperature check. Use a thermometer to compare the sun and shade at the same time of day.
Finish with: "I found that the shade was ___ degrees cooler."

Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will comfort someone who is upset."
Action: Comfort someone who is upset.
