For shade they will have thick black smoke.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "Why is smoke from a fire so dangerous to breathe?"
Watch the Fire Safety Research Institute video What's So Dangerous About Smoke?
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What kind of shade is in this ayah?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "How is real shade different from smoke?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Waqi'ah is surah 56. Find ayah 43. The key word yahmum means black smoke. Real shade is cool and kind. A "shade" of smoke gives no comfort at all. The surah mentions it as a warning, and it makes us thankful for the true shade Allah gives believers.
Fact: Why does smoke rise and gather near the ceiling?
Ages 5–8: Alarm check. Find the smoke alarm in your home and ask an adult to test it with you.
Ages 9–12: Escape plan. Draw a fire escape plan for your home with two ways out of each room.
Finish with: "I found that smoke rises because ___."

Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will check our smoke alarm with an adult."
Action: Check our smoke alarm with an adult.
