وَإِن يَرَوْا۟ ءَايَةًۭ يُعْرِضُوا۟ وَيَقُولُوا۟ سِحْرٌۭ مُّسْتَمِرٌّۭ
Wa 'in yaraw' 'āyatan yuʻ'riḍū wayaqūlū siḥ'run mmus'tamirrun
But if they see a Sign, they turn away, and say, "This is (but) transient magic."

Whenever a sign appears, they look away and dismiss it as old magic.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "Can our eyes be tricked by a picture?"

Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What did people say when they saw a sign?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why do some people refuse to believe what they see?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Qamar is surah 54. Find ayah 2. The key word sihr means magic or trickery. Optical illusions fool our eyes for a moment, but a real sign from Allah is not a trick. Some people saw clear signs and still made excuses, calling them magic so they wouldn't have to change.
Fact: Why do optical illusions trick our brains?
Ages 5–8: Illusion test. Draw two lines of equal length with arrow ends pointing in and out. Which looks longer?
Ages 9–12: Trick or truth. Write how we can tell a trick from something that is really true.
Finish with: "I found that optical illusions work because ___."
Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will admit it when I am wrong instead of making excuses."
Action: Admit it when you are wrong instead of making excuses.
