سَيَقُولُ لَكَ ٱلْمُخَلَّفُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَعْرَابِ شَغَلَتْنَآ أَمْوَٰلُنَا وَأَهْلُونَا فَٱسْتَغْفِرْ لَنَا ۚ يَقُولُونَ بِأَلْسِنَتِهِم مَّا لَيْسَ فِى قُلُوبِهِمْ ۚ قُلْ فَمَن يَمْلِكُ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ شَيْـًٔا إِنْ أَرَادَ بِكُمْ ضَرًّا أَوْ أَرَادَ بِكُمْ نَفْعًۢا ۚ بَلْ كَانَ ٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرًۢا
How to read it
Sayaqūlu laka l-mukhallafūna mina l-'aʻ'rābi shaghalat'nā 'am'wālunā wa'ah'lūnā fa-s'tagh'fir' lanā . yaqūlūna bi'alsinatihim mmā lay'sa fī qulūbihim' . qul' faman yam'liku lakum mmina -llahi shay''an 'in' 'arāda bikum' ḍarran 'aw' 'arāda bikum' naf'ʻan[m] . bal' kāna -llahu bimā taʻ'malūna khabīran[m]
The desert Arabs who lagged behind will say to thee: "We were engaged in (looking after) our flocks and herds, and our families: do thou then ask forgiveness for us." They say with their tongues what is not in their hearts. Say: "Who then has any power at all (to intervene) on your behalf with Allah, if His Will is to give you some loss or to give you some profit? But Allah is well acquainted with all that ye do.
