Opening the ayah…
فَٱرْتَقِبْ يَوْمَ تَأْتِى ٱلسَّمَآءُ بِدُخَانٍۢ مُّبِينٍۢ
Fa-r'taqib' yaw'ma ta''tī ssamā'u bidukhānin mmubīnin
Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible,

4-I guide
So watch for the day the sky brings a smoke that everyone can see.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "Where does smoke come from?"
Watch the NFPA Kids video Where There's Smoke, There's Science.
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What will the sky bring?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why is this surah named after smoke?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Ad-Dukhan is surah 44. Find ayah 10. The key words dukhanin mubin mean a clear, visible smoke. Some scholars say this was a hardship in Makkah, when people were so hungry that the sky seemed hazy. Others say it is a sign that will come before the Last Day. Either way, it is a warning to wake people up.
Fact: What is smoke made of?
Ages 5–8: Safe or unsafe. Talk about what to do if you see smoke at home.
Ages 9–12: Warning signs. List three warning signs in nature and what they tell us.
Finish with: "I found that smoke is made of ___."
Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will check that our home has a smoke alarm and learn what to do."
Action: Check the smoke alarm.
