۞ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ أَنتُمُ ٱلْفُقَرَآءُ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ ۖ وَٱللَّهُ هُوَ ٱلْغَنِىُّ ٱلْحَمِيدُ
yā'ayyuhā nnāssu 'antumu l-fuqarā'u 'ilā-llahi . wa-llahu huwa l-ghaniyyu l-ḥamīdu
O ye men! It is ye that have need of Allah: but Allah is the One Free of all wants, worthy of all praise.

People are the ones who need Allah, while Allah needs nothing and deserves all praise.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "How many things did you need just to get through this morning?"
Watch the JELLYBEAN TALES video Al-Ghani.
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "Who is in need, and who is not?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why does Allah need nothing?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Fatir is surah 35. Find ayah 15. The key word al-fuqara' means the needy ones, the poor. Every breath and heartbeat depends on Allah. He is Al-Ghani, needing nothing, and Al-Hamid, worthy of praise. Knowing we need Him makes us humble and makes our duas sincere.
Fact: How many breaths does a child take in a whole day, roughly?
Ages 5–8: Need jar. Fill a jar with paper slips, each naming something you needed today.
Ages 9–12: Breath sum. Count breaths for one minute and work out a full day's total.
Finish with: "I found that I take about ___ breaths a day."
Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will begin each dua by admitting I need Allah."
Action: Begin each dua by admitting you need Allah.
