فَيَوْمَئِذٍۢ لَّا يَنفَعُ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ مَعْذِرَتُهُمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُسْتَعْتَبُونَ
Fayaw'ma'idhin llā yanfaʻu -lladhīna ẓalamū maʻ'dhiratuhum' walā hum' yus'taʻ'tabūna
So on that Day no excuse of theirs will avail the transgressors, nor will they be invited (then) to seek grace (by repentance).

On that Day, the wrongdoers' excuses will not help them, and they will not get another chance to make amends.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "Do excuses ever change what actually happened?"
Listen to the I Love Allah recitation of Surah Ar-Rum by Qari Abdul Basit. Play the first few minutes.
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What will not help that Day?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "How can I fix mistakes now instead of making excuses?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Ar-Rum is surah 30. Find ayah 57. The key word ma'dhiratuhum means their excuses. Right now, we can say sorry, fix mistakes and ask Allah's forgiveness. On that Day, excuses will not help. This ayah urges us to fix things now, while the door is open.
Fact: Which surah tells of Adam and Hawwa saying sorry to Allah instead of making excuses?
Ages 5–8: Fix it now. Find one small thing you broke or messed up and fix it today.
Ages 9–12: Excuse-free week. Try a week of owning mistakes without excuses and write how it went.
Finish with: "I found that it is surah ___."
Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will say sorry without adding an excuse."
Action: Say sorry without adding an excuse.
