Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "Which two feelings does lightning bring?"

Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why can lightning bring both fear and hope?" Younger children can draw theirs.

Find it in the mushaf: Surah Ar-Rum is surah 30. Find ayah 24. The key words khawfan wa tama'a mean in fear and in hope. A sign to ponder: lightning can be dangerous, yet it often signals rain is coming. Lightning even helps turn nitrogen in the air into a natural fertiliser that falls with the rain. One flash can bring fear and hope at once.

Ages 5–8: Count the storm. During a storm, count the seconds between lightning and thunder.

Ages 9–12: Lightning facts. Research how lightning helps plants by making nitrogen.
