4-I guide
Surah Al-Baqarah, the longest surah, opens with three letters, Alif Lam Mim, whose full meaning Allah knows.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "What is the longest surah in the Qur'an?"
Put on Maher Al-Muaiqly's Al-Baqarah from Komal Siddiqui and follow along for a little while.
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "Which three letters begin the surah?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why do some surahs start with letters?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Baqarah is surah 2. Find ayah 1. Al-Baqarah means 'the Cow', after the story in ayat 67–73. It has 286 ayat and contains Ayat al-Kursi and the longest ayah in the Qur'an (2:282).
Fact: Al-Baqarah has 286 ayat, making it the longest surah in the Qur'an.
Ages 5–8: Count pages. Count how many pages Al-Baqarah fills in your mushaf.
Ages 9–12: Surah facts. Write three facts about Al-Baqarah.
Finish with: "Al-Baqarah means the ___."
Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will learn why this surah is called the Cow."
Action: Learn why this surah is called the Cow.
