4-I guide
This ayah teaches us to seek protection with Allah, the Lord of the daybreak, who brings light out of the dark.
Start with bismillah.
Make a room as dark as you can, then open the door just a crack. Ask: "What happens to the dark when even a thin line of light comes in?"
Watch the short time-lapse of a whole night over a giant telescope in the desert. Keep watching to the very end: how does the night break open into day?
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "Who does this ayah tell us to seek protection with?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Who brings the morning out of the night?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Falaq is surah 113, the second-last surah. Find ayah 1. Which surah right after it begins with the same instruction to seek refuge?
Fact: Does light travel in straight lines or curvy ones? Find out, then test it.
Ages 5–8: Light beams. In a dark room, shine a torch through a small hole in a piece of card. Ask a grown-up to clap two dusty chalkboard erasers (or spray a little water mist) in the beam. Can you see the beam? Is it straight or bendy?
Ages 9–12: Three-card test. Make a hole in the same spot on three cards and stand them in a line. Shine a torch through all three onto a wall. Now move the middle card a little. What happens to the light?
Finish with: "I found that light travels ___."

Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, at ___, I will ask Allah for protection, and I will bring some light to ___ by ___."
Action: Stick with your plan for seven days.

Use torches, not candles, and never shine a torch into anyone's eyes.
