أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ خَسِرُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَضَلَّ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَفْتَرُونَ
'Ūlā'ika -lladhīna khassirū 'anfussahum' waḍalla ʻan'hum mmā kānū yaf'tarūna
They are the ones who have lost their own souls: and the (fancies) they invented have left them in the lurch!

These are the people who have lost themselves, and the false things they invented have left them.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "What is worse: losing a toy or losing yourself?"
Put on Mishary Alafasy's Hud from Alafasy and follow along for a little while.
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What have these people lost?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "How can a person lose themselves?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Hud is surah 11. Find ayah 21. The worst loss is not money but ourselves: our good nature and our place with Allah. The things they trusted instead of Allah disappeared when they needed them.
Fact: Az-Zumar 39:15 describes the real losers. Read it.
Ages 5–8: What matters. Talk about the most important thing you don't want to lose.
Ages 9–12: Real loss. Write what 'losing yourself' means.
Finish with: "Az-Zumar 39:15 says the real losers are ___."
Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will hold on to a good habit even when friends don't."
Action: Hold on to a good habit even when friends don't.
