4-I guide
This ayah begins a warning to some people who pray, reminding us that our prayer should make us better people.
Start with bismillah.
Put one small plant on a sunny windowsill and look at its leaves. Ask: "What happens to a plant that gets sunlight every day? What if it was kept in a dark cupboard?"
Watch the BBC video of plants in a forest racing towards the light.
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "Who does this ayah warn? Is it surprising?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "How can my prayer help me become a better person?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Ma'un is surah 107. Find ayah 4. Read the translations of ayat 4 to 7 together. They describe the same people. What do they do wrong?
Fact: Why do plants bend and grow towards the light?
Ages 5–8: Window test. Put a small plant or a cup of sprouting beans by a window. Draw it on day one and again after a week. Which way did it lean?
Ages 9–12: Shoebox maze. Cut a hole in one end of a shoebox and add two card walls inside. Put a sprouting bean at the other end and close the lid. Check after a week: did it find the light?
Finish with: "I found that my plant grew towards ___."

Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, after ___ prayer, I will do one kind thing: ___."
Action: Stick with your plan for seven days.
