Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "Who asked to stay behind?"

Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why were the rich ones unwilling?" Younger children can draw theirs.

Find it in the mushaf: Surah At-Tawbah is surah 9. Find ayah 86. Those with the most means were the first to ask to stay. Comfort can make people lazy about doing good. Believers use what they have to help.

Fact: Find a wealthy companion who gave generously, like 'Abd ar-Rahman ibn 'Awf.

Ages 5–8: Use what you have. Use something you own to help someone.

Ages 9–12: Means and duty. Write why those with more should help more.

Finish with: "'Abd ar-Rahman ibn ___ gave generously."

Talk together:

• Who asked to stay?
• Which name of Allah does this remind you of?
• Why can comfort make us lazy?
• How can you use what you have?

Make a small plan: "This week, I will use something I have to help someone."

• Use what you have.
• Help more if you have more.
• Don't be lazy.
• Next time: the next ayah (9:87) says they preferred to stay with those left behind. Explore it together!
