Start with bismillah.

Ask: "Can avoiding a test be a test itself?"

Yasser Al-Dosari recites At-Tawbah on Quranic Voice. A few minutes is plenty.

Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What did the man ask for?"

Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "How did his excuse become a test?" Younger children can draw theirs.

Find it in the mushaf: Surah At-Tawbah is surah 9. Find ayah 49. A man said he would be tempted on the journey, so he should stay. His excuse was the real test, and he failed it by turning away. The warning of the Fire comes in one line; the lesson is to face tests with honesty.

Fact: What the word fitnah means in this ayah? Temptation or trial.

Ages 5–8: Face it. Talk about a test (not a school test) you faced bravely.

Ages 9–12: Hidden test. Write how excuses can be a test.

Finish with: "His excuse was already a ___."

Talk together:

• What was his excuse?
• Which name of Allah does this remind you of?
• How was it a test?
• How can you face tests honestly?

Make a small plan: "This week, I will face something hard instead of making excuses."

• Face tests honestly.
• Be brave.
• No false excuses.
• Next time: the next ayah (9:50) says they were upset by the believers' good news. Explore it together!

Action: Face something hard instead of making excuses.
