4-I guide
Surah Al-Inshiqaq opens with the time when the sky will split apart.
Start with bismillah.
Freeze a shallow tray of water. Tap the ice gently with a spoon. Ask: "Where does the crack go?"
Watch NPR Skunk Bear's video "What Makes Frozen Lakes Sing?". (It has some ice music.)
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What will happen to the sky?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "How can the whole sky split?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Inshiqaq is surah 84, and it has twenty-five ayat. Find ayah 1. The surah is named after the key word inshaqqat: it splits open. This is one of the things that will happen on the Day of Judgement.
Fact: Why does lake ice make booming and pinging sounds?
Ages 5–8: Crack watch. Freeze water in a plastic tub. Take it out and listen closely as it warms. Do you hear any cracks?
Ages 9–12: Ice strength. Find out how thick lake ice must be before it's safe to stand on. Why does it crack?
Finish with: "I found that ice cracks because ___."

Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will do one good deed for the Hereafter each day."
Action: Do one good deed for the Hereafter each day.

Never walk on a frozen pond or lake. Ice can look strong and still crack.
