4-I guide
Surah Al-Infitar opens with the time when the sky breaks apart.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "Have you ever seen lightning crack across the sky? What did it look like?"
Watch the SciShow Kids video "What Causes Thunder and Lightning?".
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What will happen to the sky?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why will the sky break apart?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Infitar is surah 82, and it has nineteen ayat. Find ayah 1. The surah is named after the key word infatarat: it breaks apart, splits open. It's one of the events of the Day of Judgement.
Fact: How hot is a bolt of lightning?
Ages 5–8: Count the storm. Next time there's a storm, count the seconds between the flash and the thunder. Divide by three to find how many kilometres away it is.
Ages 9–12: Static spark. Rub a balloon on your hair in a dark room and touch it to a metal spoon. Did you see a tiny spark? That's mini lightning!
Finish with: "I found that lightning is about ___ degrees."

Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will make a dua whenever I hear thunder."
Action: Make a dua whenever you hear thunder.

During lightning, stay indoors and away from water and tall trees.
