وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِيُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَأَنتَ فِيهِمْ ۚ وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ مُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَهُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ
Wa mā kāna -llahu liyuʻadhdhibahum' wa'anta fīhim' . wamā kāna -llahu muʻadhdhibahum' wahum' yas'tagh'firūna
But Allah was not going to send them a penalty whilst thou wast amongst them; nor was He going to send it whilst they could ask for pardon.

Allah would not punish them while the Prophet was among them, and He would not punish them while they were asking for forgiveness.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "What protects us from harm?"
SyaLipz & Ayat posted a short recitation of ayat 31–40 of Al-Anfal. Listen to all of it together.
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What two things kept punishment away?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "How does asking forgiveness protect us?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Anfal is surah 8. Find ayah 33. Two things protected the people of Makkah: the Prophet being with them, and people asking Allah's forgiveness. The Prophet has passed away, but istighfar, asking forgiveness, is still a shield.
Fact: Nuh 71:10–12 says istighfar brings rain, wealth and children.
Ages 5–8: Shield words. Say 'astaghfirullah' three times.
Ages 9–12: Istighfar. Write why asking forgiveness is a protection.
Finish with: "Asking forgiveness is called ___."
Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will say astaghfirullah every morning and evening."
Action: Say astaghfirullah every morning and evening.
