4-I guide
And when the moon loses its light.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "Have you ever seen the Moon turn red or dark?"
Watch the SciShow Kids video Lunar Eclipses.
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What happens to the moon?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why does the moon turn red in an eclipse?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Qiyamah is surah 75. Find ayah 8. The key words khasafal-qamar mean the moon is darkened. In a lunar eclipse, the Moon dims for a short while. On that Day, its light will go for good.
Fact: Why does the Moon look red during a lunar eclipse?
Ages 5–8: Shadow Moon. Shine a torch on a ball. Move another ball between them. What happens to the light?
Ages 9–12: Eclipse dates. Find the next lunar eclipse you can see where you live.
Finish with: "I found that the eclipsed Moon looks red because ___."
Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will look at the Moon each night and thank Allah for its light."
Action: Look at the Moon each night and thank Allah for its light.
