Opening the guide…

4-I guide
Except for those who pray.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "How does the Sun's position in the sky help set the prayer times?"
Watch the Crash Course Kids video Following the Sun.
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "Who is different from the impatient people?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "How does salah change a person?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Ma'arij is surah 70. Find ayah 22. The key words illal-musallin mean except those who pray. After describing impatient, stingy people, Allah begins a list of people who are different, and salah is first. Prayer times follow the Sun across the sky.
Fact: How does the Sun's path change through the day?
Ages 5–8: Shadow watch. Mark a stick's shadow at each prayer time today.
Ages 9–12: Sun and salah. Find today's five prayer times and where the Sun is at each.
Finish with: "I found that at midday the Sun is ___."

Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will try to pray each salah on time."
Action: Try to pray each salah on time.
