No indeed, it is a blazing flame.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "Why does a fire feel hot even when you don't touch it?"
Watch the SciShow Kids video Why Is Fire Hot?
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What is the warning?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "What protects us from the Fire?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Ma'arij is surah 70. Find ayah 15. The key word laza means a blazing flame, one of the names of the Fire. No ransom can save the wrongdoer from it. Later in the surah, Allah lists the good qualities that keep believers safe.
Fact: How does heat travel from a fire to our hands?
Ages 5–8: Safe distance. With an adult, stand at different distances from a candle. Where do you feel warmth?
Ages 9–12: Heat travel. Find the three ways heat moves: conduction, convection and radiation.
Finish with: "I found that heat from a fire reaches us by ___."

Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will ask Allah every night to keep me safe from the Fire."
Action: Ask Allah every night to keep you safe from the Fire.

Only stand near flames with an adult.
