وَلَا بِقَوْلِ كَاهِنٍۢ ۚ قَلِيلًۭا مَّا تَذَكَّرُونَ
How to read it
Wa lā biqaw'li kāhinin . qalīlan mmā tadhakkarūna
Nor is it the word of a soothsayer: little admonition it is ye receive.

Nor is it the speech of a fortune-teller; how little they take heed!
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "How can we tell if a claim is true or just a guess?"
Watch the Give Spark video Learn the Scientific Method.
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What is the Quran not?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why can fortune-tellers never truly know the future?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Haqqah is surah 69. Find ayah 42. The key words bi-qawli kahin mean the speech of a fortune-teller. Fortune-tellers guess and mix lies with truth. Only Allah knows the unseen. Scientists test ideas carefully; the Quran's truth stands every test.
Fact: What are the steps of the scientific method?
Ages 5–8: Guess and check. Guess which of three objects will float, then test them.
Ages 9–12: Test a claim. Pick a claim (for example, cold water freezes faster than warm water) and plan a fair test.
Finish with: "I found that the scientific method starts with ___."

Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will test one claim before I believe it."
Action: Test one claim before you believe it.
