They set off early, determined and sure they could keep the poor away.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "Is it always good to be determined?"
Watch the Kids Hut video Sharing is Caring.
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "How did they feel as they set out?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "When does being determined become a bad thing?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Qalam is surah 68. Find ayah 25. The key words 'ala hardin qadirin mean set on their purpose, thinking they were able. They were determined, but for a selfish goal. Determination is like a strong engine; it needs to be pointed in a good direction.
Fact: What does "selfish" mean, and what is its opposite?
Ages 5–8: Sharing plate. Share a plate of fruit with your family and count how many smiles you see.
Ages 9–12: Good goals. Write one goal you're determined about and how it could help others.
Finish with: "I found that the opposite of selfish is ___."

Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will share something I really like."
Action: Share something you really like.
