Start with bismillah.

Ask: "What can old ruins teach us about the people who lived there?"

Watch the Timeless Tales video The Lost Cities of the Indus Valley.

Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What did the people before do?"

Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "What happened to great cities of the past?" Younger children can draw theirs.

Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Mulk is surah 67. Find ayah 18. The key word nakir means My disapproval. Many peoples before had great cities and still turned away from Allah's messengers. Their ruins remind us that no city lasts forever; only Allah does.

Fact: How old is the city of Mohenjo-daro?

Ages 5–8: Brick city. Build a city from blocks or bricks, then talk about what would last after 4,000 years.

Ages 9–12: Ancient cities. Find three ancient cities and what is left of them today.

Finish with: "I found that Mohenjo-daro is about ___ years old."

Talk together:

• Why don't even great cities last forever?
• Which name of Allah does this remind you of?
• What lasts after we are gone?
• How can we learn from history?
• What would you like to ask about this ayah?

Make a small plan: "This week, I will do one good deed that will last."

• Do a lasting good deed.
• Build your brick city.
• Share your ancient cities.
• Next time: the next ayah (67:19) asks if we look at the birds above us. Explore it together!

Action: Do one good deed that will last.
