Start with bismillah.

Ask: "What would the world be like with only light, or only darkness?"

Play the short Al-An'am clip of ayah 1 from Ummah Muslim.

Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What four things did Allah make in this ayah?"

Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why does the ayah start with praise?" Younger children can draw theirs.

Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-An'am is surah 6. Find ayah 1. Al-An'am means 'the Cattle' or grazing animals. The name comes from ayat about farm animals later in the surah. It talks a lot about tawhid: Allah alone creates, so Allah alone is worshipped.

Fact: Which other surahs begin with Alhamdulillah? Al-Fatihah, Al-Kahf, Saba' and Fatir.

Ages 5–8: Light and dark. Turn off the light, then on again, and say Alhamdulillah.

Ages 9–12: Praise list. Write five things Allah created that you are thankful for.

Finish with: "Al-An'am means the ___."

Talk together:

• Who made darkness and light?
• Which name of Allah does this remind you of?
• Why is it wrong to make anything equal to Allah?
• What will you praise Allah for today?

Make a small plan: "This week, I will say Alhamdulillah when I see the sunrise or sunset."

• Allah made light and dark.
• Praise Him.
• Nothing is equal to Him.
• Next time: the next ayah (6:2) tells how we were made from clay. Explore it together!
