لِّكَيْلَا تَأْسَوْا۟ عَلَىٰ مَا فَاتَكُمْ وَلَا تَفْرَحُوا۟ بِمَآ ءَاتَىٰكُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يُحِبُّ كُلَّ مُخْتَالٍۢ فَخُورٍ
Llikay'lā ta''saw' ʻalā mā fātakum' walā taf'raḥū bimā 'ātākum' . wa-llahu lā yuḥibbu kulla mukh'tālin fakhūrin
In order that ye may not despair over matters that pass you by, nor exult over favours bestowed upon you. For Allah loveth not any vainglorious boaster,-

Start with bismillah.
Ask: "What helps you when you feel disappointed?"

Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What two feelings does this ayah balance?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "How can I stay calm whether things go well or badly?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Hadid is surah 57. Find ayah 23. The key words li-kayla ta'saw mean so that you don't grieve. Knowing Allah decides helps us stay balanced: not crushed when we lose, not boastful when we win. Like a calm sea, a believer's heart stays steady.
Fact: What are some healthy ways to handle disappointment?
Ages 5–8: Balance beam. Walk along a line holding a book on your head: stay steady!
Ages 9–12: Win and lose. Write how you'd act if you won a prize and if you lost one.
Finish with: "I found that healthy ways to handle disappointment are ___."
Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will say alhamdulillah whether I win or lose."
Action: Say alhamdulillah whether you win or lose.
