وَإِنَّهُۥ لَقَسَمٌۭ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ
How to read it
Wa 'innahu laqassamun llaw' taʻ'lamūna ʻaẓīmun
And that is indeed a mighty adjuration if ye but knew,-

4-I guide
That is a huge oath, if only you understood.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "How do scientists measure how far away a star is?"
Watch the Scientific American video How Do We Measure the Distance to Stars?
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "How does Allah describe this oath?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "How far away is the nearest star?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Waqi'ah is surah 56. Find ayah 76. The key words qasam 'azim mean a great oath. People long ago saw stars as small lights. Today we know they are giant suns so far away that their light takes years to reach us. The oath is even greater than people first understood.
Fact: How long does light from the nearest star (after the Sun) take to reach us?
Ages 5–8: Star patch. Look through a toilet roll tube at the night sky and count the stars you see.
Ages 9–12: Space scale. If the Sun were a grape in your kitchen, find out how far away the next star would be.
Finish with: "I found that light from the nearest star takes about ___ years to reach us."

Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will learn one new fact about space and share it."
Action: Learn one new fact about space and share it.
