When the sky splits apart and turns rose-red like oil...
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "Why does the sky turn red and orange at sunset?"
Watch the Beautiful Science video Why does the sky change color at sunset?
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What will happen to the sky?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "What will the sky look like on the Last Day?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Ar-Rahman is surah 55. Find ayah 37. The key words wardatan kad-dihan mean rose-red like oil. Each evening, sunlight passing through more air turns the sky red and gold. On the Last Day, the sky itself will split and glow red. Allah shows us a little of His power in every sunset.
Fact: Why is the sky blue in the day but red at sunset?
Ages 5–8: Sunset painting. Paint a sunset using red, orange and gold.
Ages 9–12: Torch and milk. Shine a torch through a glass of water with a few drops of milk and look at the colours from the side and the end.
Finish with: "I found that sunsets are red because ___."

Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will pray maghrib on time when the sky turns red."
Action: Pray maghrib on time when the sky turns red.
