وَلَقَدْ أَهْلَكْنَآ أَشْيَاعَكُمْ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ
Wa laqad' 'ah'lak'nā 'ash'yāʻakum' fahal' min mmuddakirin
And (oft) in the past, have We destroyed gangs like unto you: then is there any that will receive admonition?

Ask: "Why do we study history?"

Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "What can stories from the past teach me today?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Qamar is surah 54. Find ayah 51. The key word ashya'akum means people like you. History helps us learn from those before us so we don't repeat their mistakes. This whole surah is a history lesson: the people of Nuh, 'Ad, Thamud, Lut and Pharaoh. The question is whether we will learn from them.
Fact: What do historians use to learn about the past?
Ages 5–8: Then and now. Ask an older relative about one mistake they learned from.
Ages 9–12: Lesson chart. Make a chart of the five peoples in this surah and one lesson from each.
Finish with: "I found that historians learn from ___."
Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will learn from one mistake instead of repeating it."
Action: Learn from one mistake instead of repeating it.
