4-I guide
When the Lote Tree was covered with what covered it.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "Can butterflies completely cover a tree?"
Watch the Great Big Story video Monarchs by the Millions: Welcome to Butterfly Forest.
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What happened to the Lote Tree?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why doesn't the ayah describe exactly what covered it?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah An-Najm is surah 53. Find ayah 16. The key word yaghsha means covering over. In Mexico, millions of monarch butterflies cover whole trees so thickly that the branches bend. Allah tells us the Lote Tree was covered by something so wonderful it is left undescribed. Some wonders are beyond words.
Fact: How far do monarch butterflies travel each year?
Ages 5–8: Butterfly tree. Cover a paper tree with butterflies you have drawn and cut out.
Ages 9–12: Beyond words. Write about something so beautiful it was hard to describe.
Finish with: "I found that monarchs travel about ___ kilometres."

Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will say subhanAllah when something amazes me."
Action: Say subhanAllah when something amazes you.
