Start with bismillah.

Ask: "Is it more religious to give up everything enjoyable?"

Settle down and play the start of a reciter's Al-Ma'idah (BUSHRA ISLAMIC STUDIO).

Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What should believers not forbid?"

Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why does Allah dislike going too far?" Younger children can draw theirs.

Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Ma'idah is surah 5. Find ayah 87. Some Companions wanted to give up sleep, food or marriage to worship more. The Prophet said he prays and sleeps, fasts and eats. Islam is balanced.

Fact: The Prophet's words: 'I fast and I eat, I pray and I sleep' (Bukhari).

Ages 5–8: Enjoy and thank. Enjoy a treat and say Alhamdulillah.

Ages 9–12: Balance. Write why Islam doesn't ask us to give up all enjoyment.

Finish with: "Islam is a religion of ___."

Talk together:

• What shouldn't we forbid?
• Which name of Allah does this remind you of?
• Why balance?
• What good thing will you enjoy with thanks?

Make a small plan: "This week, I will enjoy a good thing and thank Allah for it."

• Enjoy halal.
• Don't go too far.
• Be balanced.
• Next time: the next ayah (5:88) says eat what is lawful and good. Explore it together!
