Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "How should the believers speak to the Prophet?"

Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why does a loud voice sometimes feel rude?" Younger children can draw theirs.

Find it in the mushaf: Surah Al-Hujurat is surah 49. Find ayah 2. The key words la tarfa'u aswatakum mean do not raise your voices. The companions were taught to speak gently to the Prophet out of respect. Today we show the same respect when we hear his sayings, and we speak gently to parents, teachers and elders.

Fact: How loud is a normal speaking voice compared with a shout?

Ages 5–8: Voice volume. Practise a whisper, an inside voice and an outside voice.

Ages 9–12: Respect plan. Write three places where a gentle voice shows respect.

Finish with: "I found that a shout is about ___ louder than normal speech."

Talk together:

• Why does our voice show respect or disrespect?
• Which name of Allah does this remind you of?
• When do you find it hard to keep your voice calm?
• How can we speak respectfully about the Prophet?
• What would you like to ask about this ayah?

Make a small plan: "This week, I will use a calm voice when talking to my parents."
