Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why are family ties so important?" Younger children can draw theirs.

Find it in the mushaf: Surah Ash-Shura is surah 42. Find ayah 23. The key words al-mawaddah fil-qurba mean love among kin. The Prophet asked his people for no money for sharing the message. A common explanation is that he asked them at least to respect the family ties he shared with them. The ayah also promises that every good deed is increased, because Allah is Ash-Shakur, the One who appreciates.

Fact: How many cousins do you have?

Ages 5–8: Family tree. Draw a tree with your grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Ages 9–12: Keep in touch. Choose a relative you have not spoken to for a while and plan a call, card or visit.

Finish with: "I found that I have ___ cousins."

Talk together:

• Why does Allah care about family ties?

• Which relative would be happy to hear from you?
• How does Allah increase our good deeds?
• What would you like to ask about this ayah?
