Find it in the mushaf: Surah Sad is surah 38. Find ayah 10. The key word asbab means ropes or means of reaching. Allah challenges the proud: if the heavens and earth belong to you, climb up and run them yourselves. Of course no one can. Even the Moon, our nearest neighbour in space, is so far that it takes days to reach by rocket. This is a sign to ponder about Allah, Al-Malik, the King of all.

Fact: Roughly how many kilometres away is the Moon from the Earth?

Ages 5–8: Reach the sky. Stretch as high as you can, then talk about how small we are next to the sky.

Ages 9–12: Space scale. Find out how long light from the Sun takes to reach Earth and write it down.

Finish with: "I found that the Moon is about ___ kilometres away."

Talk together:

• Why can no person rule the heavens?
• Which name of Allah does this remind you of?
• How does looking at the sky make you feel?
• What does it mean that Allah is the King of everything?
• What would you like to ask about this ayah?

Make a small plan: "This week, I will look at the night sky and remember Allah's kingdom."
