And We caused a gourd vine to grow over him.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "How can a plant look after someone?"
Watch the eLapse video Growing Calabash Bottle Gourd Time Lapse.
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What did Allah make grow over Yunus?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "How did the plant help Yunus?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah As-Saffat is surah 37. Find ayah 146. The key word yaqtin means a gourd plant. Gourd vines have big, wide leaves that give shade, and their fruit can be eaten. Allah grew this plant to shade and refresh Yunus while he healed. It is a beautiful sign of Allah's gentle care.
Fact: What is a dried, hollow gourd sometimes used for?
Ages 5–8: Shade test. Stand under a tree on a sunny day and feel how the leaves cool you.
Ages 9–12: Plant helpers. List five ways plants help people and animals.
Finish with: "I found that gourds can be used as ___."

Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will water a plant and thank Allah for the shade of trees."
Action: Water a plant and thank Allah for the shade of trees.
