وَٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ءَالِهَةًۭ لَّعَلَّهُمْ يُنصَرُونَ
Wa -ttakhadhū min dūni -llahi 'ālihatan llaʻallahum' yunṣarūna
Yet they take (for worship) gods other than Allah, (hoping) that they might be helped!

Some people took other gods besides Allah, hoping those gods would help them.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "Who do you ask first when you need help?"
Watch the Islamic Stories for Kids video Prophet Ibrahim and the Idols.
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What were people hoping for?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why would anyone ask a statue for help?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Ya-Sin is surah 36. Find ayah 74. The key word yunsarun means to be helped. After all the gifts listed, some people still turned to idols for help. Ibrahim showed his people that idols could not even protect themselves. Real help comes from Allah, the Giver of every gift.
Fact: Which surah, named after the prophets, tells how Ibrahim broke the idols?
Ages 5–8: Thank the Giver. List five gifts from the last few ayat and say who gave them.
Ages 9–12: Ibrahim's question. Write the clever question Ibrahim asked his people and why it made them think.
Finish with: "I found that the surah is ___."
Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will ask Allah first whenever I need help."
Action: Ask Allah first whenever you need help.
