Find it in the mushaf: Surah Ya-Sin is surah 36. Find ayah 33. The key word al-ard al-maytah means the dead earth. Seeds can lie still in dry soil for a long time, then water arrives and they sprout. Allah calls this a sign: the One who brings land back to life can bring people back to life too. And from it comes grain, the food of billions.

Fact: Which three grains feed most of the world's people?

Ages 5–8: Dry and wet. Put cress seeds on dry cotton wool and wet cotton wool and watch what happens over three days.

Ages 9–12: Grain map. Find where wheat, rice and maize are grown most and mark them on a world map.

Finish with: "I found that the three grains are ___."
