Start with bismillah.

Ask: "What does it mean to return home after a long journey?"

Listen to the My Quran Translations recitation of Surah As-Sajdah with English by Mufti Ismail Menk.

Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "Where does everyone return?"

Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "What will returning to Allah be like?" Younger children can draw theirs.

Find it in the mushaf: Surah As-Sajdah is surah 32. Find ayah 11. The key word turja'un means you will be returned. Every life has a time set by Allah. An angel is given this duty, and then each person returns to their Lord, who made them and loves the good they do. Believers think of it as going home to Allah.

Fact: Which words do Muslims say when they hear that someone has passed away, meaning we belong to Allah and to Him we return? Find them in Surah Al-Baqarah.

Ages 5–8: Coming home. Draw a path leading to a warm, welcoming home.

Ages 9–12: Ready to return. Write three things you would like to have done when you meet Allah.

Finish with: "I found these words in ayah ___ of Al-Baqarah."

Talk together:

• Why can returning to Allah be a comforting idea?
• Which name of Allah does this remind you of?
• How can we prepare to meet Allah?
• Who can you talk to when you feel sad about death?
• What would you like to ask about this ayah?

Make a small plan: "This week, I will make dua for someone in my family who has passed away."

• Make dua for the departed.
• Draw a path home.
• Share ready to return.
