Start with bismillah.

Ask: "Does night arrive all at once or little by little?"

Watch the W&W TV song Allah Made the Sun and Moon.

Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What do the sun and moon do?"

Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why do the days get longer and shorter?" Younger children can draw theirs.

Find it in the mushaf: Surah Luqman is surah 31. Find ayah 29. The key word yulij means He merges or slips in. Night does not switch on like a light; it slowly slides into day through dusk, and day slides into night through dawn. A sign to ponder: in summer the days grow longer and in winter shorter, as night and day take turns borrowing time from each other.

Fact: What time did the sun set today where you live, and what time will it set in a week?

Ages 5–8: Light watch. Look out of the window at sunset every few minutes and notice the light change.

Ages 9–12: Day length chart. Record sunset times for a week and draw a line graph.

Finish with: "I found that sunset changed by ___ minutes in a week."

Talk together:

• What does the slow change of day and night teach us?
• Which name of Allah does this remind you of?
• Do you prefer dawn or dusk, and why?
• How can we remember Allah at sunrise and sunset?
• What would you like to ask about this ayah?

Make a small plan: "This week, I will watch a sunset and say subhanAllah."
