وَإِذْ قَالَ لُقْمَٰنُ لِٱبْنِهِۦ وَهُوَ يَعِظُهُۥ يَٰبُنَىَّ لَا تُشْرِكْ بِٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنَّ ٱلشِّرْكَ لَظُلْمٌ عَظِيمٌۭ
Wa 'idh' qāla luq'mānu li-b'nihī wahuwa yaʻiẓuhu yābunayya lā tush'rik' bi-llahi . 'inna shshir'ka laẓul'mun ʻaẓīmun
Behold, Luqman said to his son by way of instruction: "O my son! join not in worship (others) with Allah: for false worship is indeed the highest wrong-doing."

Luqman lovingly advised his son never to worship anything besides Allah, because that is a very great wrong.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "What is the most important advice a parent could give?"
Watch the Deen Love Kids lesson The Dangers of Shirk.
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "How does Luqman call his son?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why is shirk such a great wrong?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah Luqman is surah 31. Find ayah 13. The key word ya bunayya means my dear little son, a gentle, loving way to speak. Luqman's first advice was tawhid: worship Allah alone. Shirk means giving Allah's rights to anyone or anything else. Notice how Luqman teaches with love, not harshness.
Fact: What does the word tawhid mean?
Ages 5–8: Kind voice. Practise giving advice to a toy using a gentle voice like Luqman.
Ages 9–12: Advice letter. Write a short, kind letter of advice to a younger child.
Finish with: "I found that tawhid means ___."
Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will give advice gently instead of bossily."
Action: Give advice gently instead of bossily.
