Watch the VRIC Friday khutbah on Surah Ar-Rum. Play the first few minutes.

Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What were most earlier people like?"

Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "What lessons do ruins teach?" Younger children can draw theirs.

Find it in the mushaf: Surah Ar-Rum is surah 30. Find ayah 42. This ayah repeats the call to travel from ayah 9, now adding that most of those earlier peoples worshipped others besides Allah. Museums and ruins are full of silent lessons. A thoughtful traveller asks: what did these people believe, and what happened to them?

Fact: Which ancient city in Jordan, carved into rose-red rock, was once a busy trading centre?

Ages 5–8: Museum walk. Visit a museum or look at pictures of ancient objects and guess how people lived.

Ages 9–12: History detective. Choose a lost civilisation and find out what they worshipped.

Finish with: "I found that the city is ___."

Talk together:

• Which name of Allah does this remind you of?
• What can ruins teach us?
• Where would you like to travel to learn?
• What would you like to ask about this ayah?

Make a small plan: "This week, I will visit a museum or read about an ancient people."
