إِنَّكَ لَا تُسْمِعُ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ وَلَا تُسْمِعُ ٱلصُّمَّ ٱلدُّعَآءَ إِذَا وَلَّوْا۟ مُدْبِرِينَ
'Innaka lā tus'miʻu l-maw'tā walā tus'miʻu ṣṣumma dduʻā'a 'idhā wallaw' mud'birīna
Truly thou canst not cause the dead to listen, nor canst thou cause the deaf to hear the call, (especially) when they turn back in retreat.

Hearts that turn their backs are like the dead or the deaf, and no caller can force them to listen.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "What happens when someone refuses to listen?"

Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "Who cannot hear the call?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "How can a heart be deaf?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah An-Naml is surah 27. Find ayah 80. The key word as-summ means the deaf. Here it describes hearts that refuse to listen, not people who are hard of hearing. When someone turns away, words cannot reach them. Our job is to call kindly; listening is their choice.
Fact: Which part of the inner ear helps us keep our balance?
Ages 5–8: Listening ears. Play a whispering game and see who listens best.
Ages 9–12: Open hearts. Write how to keep your heart open to good advice.
