قَالُوا۟ ٱطَّيَّرْنَا بِكَ وَبِمَن مَّعَكَ ۚ قَالَ طَٰٓئِرُكُمْ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ۖ بَلْ أَنتُمْ قَوْمٌۭ تُفْتَنُونَ
Qālū -ṭṭayyar'nā bika wabiman mmaʻaka . qāla ṭā'irukum' ʻinda -llahi . bal' 'antum' qaw'mun tuf'tanūna
They said: "Ill omen do we augur from thee and those that are with thee". He said: "Your ill omen is with Allah; yea, ye are a people under trial."

They blamed Salih and his followers for their bad luck, and he answered that their fortune was in Allah's hands and they were being tested.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "Do you think some things are lucky or unlucky?"

Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What did they blame Salih for?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why is believing in bad luck wrong?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah An-Naml is surah 27. Find ayah 47. The key word ittayyarna means we saw a bad omen. Thamud blamed their problems on Salih. He told them the real matter is with Allah: they were being tested. Muslims do not believe in lucky charms or unlucky signs; everything is by Allah's decree.
Fact: Which surah says, in ayah 131 of Al-A'raf, that Pharaoh's people also blamed Musa for bad luck?
Ages 5–8: No luck needed. Talk about why we say in sha Allah instead of 'good luck'.
