وَلَوْلَآ إِذْ سَمِعْتُمُوهُ قُلْتُم مَّا يَكُونُ لَنَآ أَن نَّتَكَلَّمَ بِهَٰذَا سُبْحَٰنَكَ هَٰذَا بُهْتَٰنٌ عَظِيمٌۭ
Wa law'lā 'idh' samiʻ'tumūhu qultum mmā yakūnu lanā 'an nnatakallama bihādhā sub'ḥānaka hādhā buh'tānun ʻaẓīmun
And why did ye not, when ye heard it, say? - "It is not right of us to speak of this: Glory to Allah! this is a most serious slander!"

When they heard it, they should have said it was not right for them to talk about it, glorified Allah, and called it a great slander.
Start with bismillah.
Ask: "What can you say when friends start gossiping?"
Play Abdul Basit's murattal An-Nur from Qiraat for a few minutes.
Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "What words of glory does the ayah teach?"
Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "Why does saying subhanallah fit here?" Younger children can draw theirs.
Find it in the mushaf: Surah An-Nur is surah 24. Find ayah 16. Allah gives us words to say: this is not for us to speak about; glory be to Allah; this is a big slander. Saying subhanallah reminds us that Allah is far above anything bad, and so we turn away from ugly talk.

Ages 5–8: Stop sign. Make a small stop sign and practise saying 'that's not for us to say'.
Ages 9–12: Script. Write a short script for changing the subject when gossip starts.
Finish with: "I found subhanallah means ___."
Talk together:
Make a small plan: "This week, I will say 'that's not for us to say' if gossip starts ___ (where)."
Action: Use your words when needed.
