Ask: "Can you think of a time something could have gone badly but didn't?"

Now listen to the ayah together in the app, with the translation. Ask: "Which qualities of Allah are named here?"

Each child keeps one wonder question, for example: "How many times has Allah's mercy saved me today?" Younger children can draw theirs.

Find it in the mushaf: Surah An-Nur is surah 24. Find ayah 10. After hard rulings, Allah reminds us how kind He is. His grace and mercy hold us, He accepts those who turn back, and His rules are wise. This line comes again in this surah, like a chorus. Notice how often mercy appears.

Fact: How many times does An-Nur repeat 'if not for Allah's grace and mercy'? Look in ayat 10, 14, 20 and 21.

Ages 5–8: Mercy blanket. Wrap a soft toy in a blanket and talk about how Allah's mercy surrounds us.

Ages 9–12: Near misses. Write about a time you were kept safe from something bad.

Finish with: "I found the mercy line ___ times."

Talk together:

• Where have you felt Allah's mercy?
• Which name of Allah does this remind you of?
• Why does Allah accept repentance?
• How can you be merciful to others?

Make a small plan: "This week, I will thank Allah for His mercy each night ___ (where)."

• Show a younger child the mercy blanket.
• Tell someone about the mercy chorus in An-Nur.
• Next time: the next ayah (24:11) begins the story of a lie that was spread. Explore it together!
